PRO SHOP

Truro’s popular Professional, Nigel Bicknell, ably assisted by Lee Mitchell, presides over a well-stocked shop.

Long recognised as one of the best golf teachers in the South West, Nigel is particularly noted as a coach of junior players. Since 1973, some 13 juniors have gone on to become qualified PGA professionals. Amongst those learning the game at Truro, many have represented Cornwall at junior and senior levels and several have achieved international recognition. Indeed, the club currently boasts no less than four members who have been part of their national squads and all have represented various UK countries.

In 2005 Truro Juniors won the highest possible accolade in junior golf in winning the English National Team Championship.

The Club’s current top golfer, 18-year-old plus 3 handicap Rhys Enoch is himself a product of Nigel’s teaching. In the autumn, Rhys is off to start a four-year golf scholarship at America’s prestigious East Tennessee State University. Qualified to play for Wales he ended his junior career as a member of the Great Britain and Ireland team v. Europe and is now third in the Welsh men’s order of merit.

That’s not all. His 16-year old brother Ben is the current South West junior champion and is already in the County Men’s Team.

That’s still not all. Nigel’s protégé, 15-year-old Sarah-Jane Boyd, with a current handicap of 6, is the Club’s top lady golfer with a great future ahead.
